Alderman, film offices to attend ribbon cutting of new Sisters in Cinema Media Arts Center in South Shore
CHICAGO – Greg Mitchell, 7th Ward Alderman, and representatives from the Chicago and Illinois Film Offices are set to attend the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Celebration of the new state-of-the-art facility on Chicago’s South Side at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 15. The new Media Arts Center, located in the historic South Shore neighborhood, will be home to Sisters in Cinema, a non-profit organization dedicated to centering and celebrating Black girls, women, and gender nonconforming media makers. It will house gallery space, a cozy 35-seat theater, a creative lab, and classroom/conference space.
Programming at the Media Art Center is developed with community input and will be offered to the South Shore community and Chicago-based industry professionals free of charge with the goal of creating a more inclusive creative community. The development of the Media Arts Center was made possible in part by the City of Chicago’s Neighborhood Opportunity Fund.
